The Heroic Son Of Iyanmo Returns

IMMEDIATE past governor of Edo State, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, received heroic welcome at his home town, Iyamho, Etsako West Local Government Area of the state, weekend, after handing over to the new governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki.

Royal fathers from Edo North senatorial district, led by the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru Momoh and people of the area, received him back home, describing him as their hero who had made them proud. Market women, youths and the elderly rushed out to welcome Oshiomhole alongside his wife lara.

Dignitaries such as Senator Ehigie Uzamere, Captain Hosa Okunbor, Patrick Obahiagbon and some members of his cabinet were equally at the event. Oshiomhole, who expressed gratitude to God for protecting him and giving him the opportunity to serve the state, said: “Just eight years ago when we were strangers to power, at the local government level we were out, at the state level we were out, national level we were out. Under eight years, God, in his infinite power, who sees through the hearts of men and women, entrusted us at the local government level, at the state level and even now at the federal level. But we did not seek power for our own good. It was clear that our state needed to be repositioned. We needed to rescue our people from the grip of god- fathers. It was clear that we needed to liberalize the polity so that our people would decide who led them.

“Eight years later I am proud that my party is well entrenched at the local government, at the state and at the federal level. Across the 192 wards of our state, everyone can readily point out how government, under our stewardship, has impacted and affected their lives. That, for me, is my joy. I thank all of you that stood by us, it was never easy and life is not always easy. We want to thank God for his protection, but my joy today is that, as they say there is no success without a successor. I am happy that God decreed that I hand over to someone who is from the All Progressives Congress, APC, family.”
