Edo Gov. Re-instates Commitment To Human Capital Dev.
BENIN CITY: The Executive Governor of Edo State Mr. Godwin Obaseki has assured the people of the state that his administration will focus on capital human development using Benin Technical College for the training of quality human resources that would contribute their quota to the development of the society.
Obaseki gave the assurance when he received an enlarge body of youths organizations including Student Union Government (SUG) leadership, who paid him a curtsey visit in the old exco chambers in government House , yesterday in Benin City.
The governor who was represented by his Chief of Staff Mr. Taiwo Akerele said the focus of his administration is to raise the standard of education in the state through massive investment in the sector so as to produce quality human resources to drive the process of industrialization and agriculture.
Speaking further, the governor encourage the youths to take advantage of the opportunity being provided by the present administration to empower them, assuring them that his electioneering promises of creating 200,000 jobs for the youths of the state is realizable.
The governor noted that the issues of capital flight will simonteniously be addressed through investment in education and employment to drive the industrialization process.
On the agitation of Edo state students for bursary and scholarship, the Chie of Staff assured them that the message will be taken to the governor while also assuring the indigenous farmers will continue to enjoy direct grants from government.
The Chief of Staff added that those who have been disengaged from collecting taxes or revenue would be considered as government is already working alternative means to engage them meaningfully, insisting that the present administration means well for every citizen of the state.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the leader of the group Dr. Kennedy Modugu said they came to the government house to congratulate the governor on the success in the September 28th governorship election in the state which he won convincingly. He expressed the group’s confidence in the leadership of governor Obaseki whom they said has began in a good note by the commendable steps taken so far in restoring dignity in the system.
Dr. Modugu said “we used to have miscreants as revenue collectors in the state and in the process many genuine and law abiding citizens were harassed and maimed, but today we are happy to hear the news that today things are changing for good”.
He assured that the group is ready to cooperate with the government in its youths employment and industrialization programme.
He also advised the government not to engage the services of miscreants in revenue collection saying that there are many educated youths with cognate skills to do the work for government instead.
