Official Unveiling Of Edocated Initiative And The Presentation Of The Book "MARK OF AN EMPIRE
On the 1st of April 2017, a symposium, unveiling of EDOCATED INITIATIVE and launch of a book titled "MARK OF AN EMPIRE" Volume I took place at Bishop Kelly's Pastoral centre, Airport road, Benin City.Edo State.
The symposium with the theme " MAKE EDO GREAT AGAIN", attracted dignitaries from all works of life, including son's and daughters of the Benin kingdom at home and afar, with interest also from lovers of history.
The event which was anchored by SKO and Mr Osazee commenced with an opening remark given by Prince Ekpen Erediauwa. He talked on the importance of such initiative with regards to Edo history, and commended the founder and host,Miss Iyayi Osasumwen Precious for conceiving such a noble idea, and coming up with programmes that promote rich cultural heritage of the Benin Kingdom.
In her welcome speech, the founder of Edocated Initiative, Miss Osasumwen Precious Iyayi, inform guest of what drove her into writing Benin History books , and coming up with the idea of setting up a Non Governmental Organization : the lack of basic knowledge about the unique history and profoundly rich culture of the great Benin Kingdom in our contemporary society, together with a burning affection to reverse this undesirable trend .The founder, further stated that she decided to come up with the initiative to entrench a deep awareness of our history and culture in children, youths and society at large, by using the modern means of social media, web sites and publishing of books in propagate the history and rich cultural heritage of the Benin’s.
The 1st speaker of the day,
Prof Osarhieme Osadolor of the University of Benin , in a paper presentation titled "ORIGIN OF THE BENIN PEOPLE". He educated the audience with fact based on his years of research as an international scholar. He put forward that “No one is really certain about the origin of the Benin People,whose origin appears to have been lost in myths and legends of the distant past”. What is very certain is that Benin people civilization is well over 6000 years according to scientific research, and before the first inhabitants of Edo land. He also informed those in attendance of how Benin People have some cultural and language similarities to countries in Africa and outside Africa as far as Japan.
The 2nd Speaker of the day, Dr Pedro Obaseki, founder of ACC broadcaster and communication expert. In his paper presentation, he spoke about "THE CIVILIZATION OF THE ANCIENT BENIN KINGDOM". He educated the keen audience on why Benin is referred to as the "Centre of Black Civilization" in executing this, he took the audience back in time to the era of old Benin Empire ,when Benin Architecture, Arts and style of Monarchical system of administration was then regarded as civilized. 3nd Speaker of the day, Amb Lancelot Oduwa Imasuen ,a popular nollywood movie producer.In his presentation "HOW EDO PEOPLE CAN MAKE EDO GREAT AGAIN", he told the audience every home in Edo kingdom should learn to Educate their children on the use of Edo language. He went further to encourage the youths to tap into the arts and culture of the kingdom,which is rich in history and heritage. There where cultural dance presentation from two popular schools : Emotan College and Niger College.While award of certificates of participation were presented to schools represented.
Edo born Rap/Hip-Pop music super star One Touch, was on hand to perform and thrill the audience.
Notable invited guests at the symposium were : Prof.Victor Efosa Uwaifo, High Priest Ebohon, Hon. Samson Osagie represented by Mr Okungbowa Osagie. Others were Senator Matthew Urhoghide represented by Mr Pett Eghobamien, Engr Chris Ogiewonyi represented by Mr George Idehen and Comrade Osaigbovo Obasogie, presieent NAES( National Association of Edo State Students) . Also present were president and members of National Union Of Benin Students (NUBS), Ekpoma and Auchi Chapters, Members of Edo Forum of Patriots and Members of Oghedo Forum.
An award of Best Cultural Dance Presentation was presented to Emotan College by Mr Aiko Obobaifo, Secretary of the Institute for Benin Studies.
Mark of an Empire was reviewed by Mr Osaigbovo Obasogie, the founder of Edo Arise.
