Oba of Benin visits Esanland …urges FG to fix Ekpoma-Auchi-Abuja road
THE Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has called on the Federal Government to urgently find solution to the bad state of the Ekpoma-Auchi-Abuja Road, lamenting that it has become a nightmare to motorists.
The monarch, who stated this during his coronation thank you visit to Esan traditional rulers, also expressed worry over the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the southern part of the country and urged security agents to check the herdsmen’s excesses so as to avoid crisis.
Some of the Esan leaders, who welcomed the Oba at the well attended ceremony, included the Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Mr Justin Okonobo, Onojie of Ekpoma H.R.H Abureme, Onojie of Opoji, H.R.H Ehidiamen and other traditional rulers in Esanland.
Thanking the Esan monarchs for their support throughout his coronation, Oba Ewuare II expressed his desire to join forces with the state government to draw the Federal Government’s attention to the deplorable Ekpoma-Auchi-Abuja Road.
Adding that the ongoing reforms in the palace which includes the introduction of the customary arbitration committee was geared towards ensuring a peaceful and progressives society.
The monarch who also condemned the high rate of unemployment and under development at the grassroots level, disclosed of plans to commence what he described as the Sunday Sunday farm produce discount market which will carter for the needs of the poor in the society.
Reacting to the issue of the suspended Onojie of Uromi, he said “I am looking forward to receiving a delegation of Esan traditional rulers in my palace so that we can sit down and see the possible ways to resolve the matter amicably.”.
In a welcome address, the Onojie of Ekpoma H.R.H Abureme expressed gratitude to the Oba for the visit, describing him as a father and a brother. He further commended the Oba for the abolition of Community Development Associations in the state, noting that peace has returned in the communities since then.
