Father’s Day: Obaseki urges fathers to responsibility

Celebrating the International Father’s Day, Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo state has called on Fathers in the state and in Nigeria to rise up to the immense responsibility of fatherhood and ensure that they catered for their families, while also cautioning intending fathers to ensure they adopted family planning in structuring their families.

In a statement from the Office of his Chief Press Secretary, the governor also that this would go some way to control some of the socio-cultural and socio-economic challenges affecting the state and the country,

The statement read in part: “While the governor celebrates with fathers in and out of Edo State on this auspicious day, it is also important for every father to take charge of their responsibilities and ensure that their children are not on the streets begging or hawking. Every father must also ensure that the right values and morals of our ancestors are inculcated by their children.”

Calling on fathers to ensure that they laid strong foundations for their children, the governor also noted that it would not be fair to the children to bring them into the world and then condemn them to years of joblessness or the lack of a skill to enable them make a decent livelihood.

“Fathers wield so much influence in the lives of their children and they must use this influence to encourage their children so that they will not laze about unproductively. To develop Edo State, fathers have a big role to play and now is the time for them to take action,” he said.
