Killers! We Will Go After Them, Obaseki.
WORRIED by the incessant raping and killing of women at their farms by suspected herdsmen in Edo State communities, Governor Godwin Obaseki of the state has ordered security agencies in the state to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime.
Deputy Governor of the state, Mr Philip Shaibu, who gave the directive on behalf of the governor when he paid a condolence visit to the families of late Margaret Odiamehi, who was murdered in her farm on Tuesday by suspected herdsmen, described the killings as unacceptable adding that same must be stopped.
Shaibu, who was accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliru Gwandu and Director of DSS, Aliru Ibrahim, to Ukpenu community, in Ekpoma, where the women stormed the streets in protest over the killing of Mrs Odiamehi, was received by the eldest son of the diseased, Mr Joseph Odiamehi and other community leaders.
The bereaved Joseph explained that a search party found their mother dead in the farm after the family had waited beyond the expected time for her to return. Shaibu who was visibly angry, urged the people, especially hunters and the vigilante groups in the area, to assist government and the security agencies by providing useful information that could lead to the arrest of the perpetrators.
Noting that the state government was concerned about the incessant killings, Shaibu said “It is a very sad development and we sympathize with you on this. The governor got the sad news less than three hours ago and asked me to come immediately. We assure you of government’s commitment to eradicating the menace.
“No matter what we do now, we cannot replace the loss, but I pray God to give you the fortitude to bear the loss. I also want to assure you that these perpetrators will not go unpunished.”
