FG to commence rehabilitation of Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi road after raining season

THE Federal Government has disclosed plans to commence the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi road after the raining season, after it described the state of the road as death trap.

The disclosure was made by the Minister of state Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, at the three-day Retreat for members of the Edo state House of Assembly organized by the new leadership of the Assembly by Speaker Kabiru Adjoto in Abuja weekend.

Dr Ehanire who disclosed this after the Speaker, Alhaji Adjoto had lamented the deaths being recorded on a daily basis along the road, crying that it was almost impossible for people to travel from Benin to Auchi along the road, said the issue of the deplorable road has been discussed with the Minister of Power, Works and Housing adding that after the rains work will commence.

According to him, “I have discussed the issue of the road with the Minister and he also agreed that it is a death trap, so he has assured us that after the rains there will be a lot of emphasis on that road, I take that road too and I have given a clear picture of how that road is to him”. The Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu, who declared the retreat open also harped on the need for the Federal Government to fix the dilapidated road, commending the leadership of the House for efforts towards ensuring that the road is fixed.

“That is leadership and I am glad that in Edo state both the legislator, the judiciary and Executive are doing their best to give the people of Edo state the best. Luckily, my boss Governor Godwin Obaseki is one man that has refused to interfere in the activities of the House. He believes that the House, the Judiciary and the legislature are one and are also independent of themselves about what they do but they must co-exist in order to move the state forward”.

Speaker Adjoto, who gave reasons for the retreat, said “we need to update ourselves about the workings of the legislator and also use the opportunity to appeal to the Federal Government to come to our aid as regards the pitiable state of the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi road. And also to see how the Minister of Health will help our state in terms of primary health care and immunization and we are happy the retreat was a success”.

Others who spoke at the retreat includes the senator representing Edo North district, Senator Francis Alimekhena, former senatorial candidate of APC in Edo state, Mr Samson Osagie and others.
