Edo State government has suspended four secondary school principals over illegal collection of levies from students.
They were alleged to have collected between N11,000 and N20,000 for school uniforms as against N3,000 for Junior Secondary School and N4,000 for Senior Secondary School approved by the state government.
Those affected were wife of former House of Representatives member, Mrs Cecillia Ifaluyi Isibor, the principal of Idogbo junior secondary school.
Others were Glory Omorodion of Oka Junior Secondary School, Mrs. Victoria Okuonghae of Niger College Junior school, Mr. Bright Omorogie of Idogbo Senior Secondary School.
Commissioner for Education, Dr. Christopher Adesotu, told newsmen on Saturday that the affected principals have been referred to the Post Primary Education Board for disciplinary action.
The official disclosed that he uncovered the principals’ action when he interacted with some students during his visit to some schools.
“I discovered that some students paid N11,000, N16,000 and N20,000 for school uniforms. And that was illegal”.
He warned Chief Inspectors of Education to carry out their responsibility with diligence or be sacked.
