Edo Govt to Re-Visit Uromi Monarch’s Dethronement

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State, weekend in Uromi, the administrative headquarters of Esan North-East Local Government Area of the state, promised that his government will revisit the deposition of the Onojie of Uromi Kingdom, His Royal Highness Anselm Eidonojie I, who was deposed by former governor, Adams Oshiomhole.

Obaseki, who was guest of honour at the 13th Esan Economic Empowerment Workshop, entitled Modernising Agribusiness in Esanland for Economic Empowerment, organised by the Association of Esan Professionals, AEP, said: “The decision for the deposition of the Onojie was not taken in a hurry. I am a product of tradition. I have no malice against anybody, but things should be done properly.”

Earlier, the Association of Esan Professionals, through its President, Mr. Matthew Eigbadon, a former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, appealed to Governor Obaseki for mercy on the dethroned Onojie of Uromi Kingdom.

Eigbadon also appealed to the state government to key into the AEP agribusiness for Esan people by addressing youth employment through agriculture, strengthening access to agricultural inputs and produce markets, financial inclusion for farmers, women in agri-business, enabling policy environment and security challenges as well as other critical barriers to value chain development and unlocking private sector investments in agribusiness.
