Edo Laments Loss of Mother and Quadruplets.
BENIN—LEADERS of Okpekpe community, in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State have lamented the loss of a mother and her quadruplets after delivery due to lack of functional primary health care centre in the community.
The clan head of the kingdom, Pa Peter Osigbemeh, who disclosed this at a ceremony to witness the partnership deal between the community and the Women Health Action Research Centre, WHARC, geared towards checking cases of mother and infant mortality in the community, at the 10th Okpekpe National Day, regretted that the community and other communities in the state had lost women and children due to lack of healthcare facilities over the years. Expressing excitement over the partnership with WHARC, Pa Osigbemeh disclosed that the community had already committed N2 million to the project and expressed optimism that the partnership will stop the frequent deaths of pregnant women as well as those of children before they attain the age of five. He said: “Just before they (WHARC) came up with this idea of partnership, I lost a woman who delivered a set of quadruplets. The woman and the four children died within two hours. It was so painful to all of us and more painful because the deaths could have been prevented if we had the facilities.” [if !supportLineBreakNewLine] [endif]
