BENIN CITY - Three persons have been shot dead in a renewed cult violence that engulfed parts of Edo State last weekend.

Poised to stem the spate of killings police have arrested some persons suspected to be masterminding and fuelling the violence in the embattled areas.

Investigation revealed that operatives of Anti-cultism squad of the state police command launched a serious manhunt and made the arrests.

One of the victims was said to have been trailed and killed at his girl friend’s area in Upper Saint Saviour, Benin City where he was hiding after his alleged involvement in previous reprisal killing of a rival cult member.

It was further learnt that two other casualties were recorded in Ekpoma town, the administrative headquarters of Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Some boys said to be suspected cultists were hauled from Ekpoma in three police Hilux vans to the state police command headquarters, Benin City, last Sunday evening.

A dependable source at the police command headquarters in Benin hinted our reporter that those arrested were high profile leaders of various cult groups in Ekpoma.

The Spokesman, Edo Police Command DSP Moses Nkombe could not be reached for comments.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Edo Mr Haliru Gwandu had in a previous press briefing stated that every law abiding resident of the state would enjoyed adequate police security as no criminal would go unpunished under his watch.
