Top government officials in Edo State led by the Deputy Governor, Right Honourable Philip Shuaibu and his wife, MaryAnn, graced the Benin City edition of the Glo Laffta Fest, Nigeria’s foremost comedy brand held at the Flamingo Hall of Best Western, over the weekend.
But it was Mercy Johnson-Okojie, who is married to an Edo State indigene who stole the show as the Benin crowd showed special love for the celebrity guest. Her appearance on stage was greeted with a standing ovation by some of the audience who screamed in excitement.
Other dignitaries at the star-studded show, included the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Dr. Justin Okonoboh, Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Folly Ogendegbe, members of the House, Hon. Gowon Jerry and Hon. Damian Lawani and his wife.
The show, which had previously been held in nine major cities, paraded some of the country’s brightest and best comedians who serenaded the Benin audience for over five hours. The stellar comedians included Basketmouth; I Go Dye; master story-teller, Bovi Ugboma; Uganda’s funniest man, Salvador; Acapella; musical comedy exponent, Kenny Blaq and Benin-based comic star, Maleke. All the comedians proved their mettle and got attendees reeling with bouts of laughter.
Home grown talent and budding stars like Eboh Bomb, MC Action, Emmaralo, British Pastors, MC Otis, MC Medical, Lucky Wise and MC Obaro, among others opened the show. Emboldened by the applause from the Benin crowd, virtually all the fresh comics delivered their routines with the aplomb of successful international comics.
Nollywood legends, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD), Patience Ozokwor (Mama G) and Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK) were also well received.
Ijebu Ode in Ogun State is the next destination of the show this Sunday. Other cities that will host the show in the weeks ahead include Awka, Ikeja, Ikorodu, FESTAC, Ajah, Asaba, Aba, Suleja, Kubwa, Ibadan, Port Harcourt, Abeokuta, Kaduna, Akure, Lokoja, and Anyigba.
