Journalists in Edo State today woke up to the sad news of the killing of one of their colleagues, Lawrence Okojie, with the Nigeria Television Authority, Benin, the state capital.
Okojie was said to have been shot dead on Saturday night at Siluko road, off Oguola Junction at about 8pm by suspected assassins.
The ugly incident was said to have occurred shortly after Mr. Okojie was dropped close to his resident after the close of work Saturday night by a cabman.
His death brings to five the number of journalists killed in Edo State in the last six years.
Before his tragic death, Mr. Okojie was said to have put a call to his wife that he was on his way home but could not arrive home after several hours which heightened the curiosity of both his wife and neighbours.
The body of late of Okojie was found in his pool of blood following alarm raised by residents of the area.
At time of filing in this report, the circumstance his killing still remain sketchy.
However, Edo State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Moses Ikombe, when contacted said one person have been arrested in connection with the killing of the Journalist.
Meanwhile staff and workers at the premises of the NTA who were in mourning mood were seen gathered in clusters obviously discussing the tragedy that befell one of their colleagues.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, of the state command, DSP Moses Nkombe when contacted yesterday disclosed that one person had been arrested in connection with the death of Mr. Okojie.
