A 19-year-old suspected cultist has confessed killing two persons within two years when he became member of a notorious cult group in Benin City.
The suspect who identified himself as Lawrence Uyinwmen made the confession when he was being paraded along with 52 other suspected criminals arrested by operatives of Edo Police Command, Benin City.
Uyinwmen revealed that his two victims were members of a rival cult group who he gunned down at Ekiadolor Village and a bar in Isiehor, near Benin during cult crisis, two years ago.
“My name is Lawrence Uyinwmen, I be Eiye, my friend Bigi a student of Auchi Poly carry me go Auchi go join the cult group two years ago.
“When we get fight with Arubaga (another cult group) for Ekiadolor na there I confirmed (killed) one.
“At a bar in Isiehor the same jurist men come shoot me friend for leg, I confirmed (killed) one of them instantly. That is the second one. Na Bigi get the gun.
“I have killed only two persons.” Uyinwmen stated.
He disclosed that his friend Bigi has been on the run since he was apprehended by members of vigilante in his area in Oromiyan, Benin City, two weeks ago.
The suspect who claimed to own a shop of fashion designing promised to change if given a second chance.
The Commissioner of Police, Edo State Mr Haliru Gwandu paraded the suspect with 52 others at the Police Command headquarters, Benin City, last Thursday.
He stated that the suspects were apprehended for various crimes ranging from kidnapping, armed robbery, murder, car snatching to recruitment racketeering.
CP Gwandu reiterated the police resolve to make Edo State a hotbed for criminals and their allies maintaining that those paraded would be charged to court soon.
Sophisticated arms, ammunition, cars, Identity (ID) cards, laptops and other items said to be exhibits recovered from the suspects were also displayed during the exercise.
