Victorious Challenge!!!

Few day ago I was propelled by the tears of the old men from Iyanomo Community who were arrested and refused bail for their inability to raise the sum of N300, 000 to do a post which I titled ‘EDO STATE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE JOHNSON KOKUMO IS DRIVING ON THE DANGEROUS PART OF ODIUM LIKE HIS PREDECESSOR: THE O/C ANTI ROBBERY SQUAD, SP VICTOR ILEVBARE IS A ROBBER THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED’.

I may not have felt that pained if I was not personally present when the request of N300, 000 was made at about 7pm on the 17th of March, 2018, but the tears that dropped from my eyes that night was as a result of the wailings of grandfathers and the fate of our dear state if such injustice was allowed to continue unabated.

I recall that on the resumption of CP. Johnson Kokumo in Edo State, we were worried on how he was going to cope with the stinky state of the Edo police command as superintended over by his predecessor where unlawful arrest and detention, frivolous charges, extortion, and corruption were fully entrenched particularly when our background check before the arrival of CP. Johnson Kokumo shows that he was possessed with integrity and professionalism like Cp Fimihan Adeoye and that in fact they were both from same school of thought.

Our inaugural meeting with him was quite reassuring as he affirmed his determination to partner with the mass of the people to change the narrative of policing in Edo State and particularly urge us to feed him with information that will help to purge the command with corrupt and unprofessional tendencies.

I acknowledge the fact that the Commissioner of Police is not omnipresent but when vista for communication is opened and information is received, the verification of information and action taken thereon to save the society is really what manners.

Therefore, I am constrained to commend the Commissioner of Police, Edo State CP. Johnson Kokumo for the immediate/unconditional release of the old men from Iyanomo Community who were arrested and refused bail for their inability to raise the sum of N300, 000 over a land dispute and for the removal of Sp. Victor Ilevbare as O/C Anti Robbery Squad, State CID, Edo State on principles.

We shall continue to partner with the police in a more robust manner as this is a wakeup call and lesson to other police teams, squad, sections, departments, divisions and individuals (I will wrestle with the temptation of calling names) whose gluttonous taste for money as Bail hasn’t wane.

Now that ‘Bail is Free’ particularly as the Administration of Criminal Justice Law, Edo State 2018 have just been assented to by the Governor of Edo State, Edo people must shun crime and be on the side of the law as the Network of Civil Society Organizations of Nigeria (NOCSON) is determined to continually advocate and protect the rights of the people who genuinely are not into crime like the oldmen from Iyanomo Community.

NOCSON shall continue to superintend as the third force of the tripod in between government and capitalists and will continually advance the course of the masses and demand for justice and shall resist unrepentantly any attempt to shortchange our people.
