Edos Must Ask Questions

July 18, 2018

It’s hard to see something to smile about in Nigeria these days. Today is different because of the unveiling of the Logo of our new National Carrier in London by the Nigerian aviation minister. This has given a little boost to our sense of nationalism which has been damaged by corrupt governments.

One of the most important aspects of this unveiling is the honesty of the minister of Aviation (Maybe it’s because he is in London IDK), but he stressed that this is private sector driven and that the Nigerian government will not be involved in running it or deciding who runs it. The Nigerian Government will not own more than 5% (maximum) of the new national carrier, new terminals will be built in Lagos and Abuja that will add 11 million passenger capacity, the airline will have flights on 81 domestic, regional and international routes. Operations are scheduled to begin in December 2018.

In Edo state, over the last 19 months, we have been shown so-called investors, countless committees have been formed, but none of them have been able to come up with the information as stated above.  We need this information and we need it fast to quell doubt, to raise hope, to create better optimism, all positives if I go on.

Gov. Obaseki, what have they, the so-called investors agreed? What have we signed? When will they start work? When will they end? Who will own it? How much will we own? How long will it take? What opportunities are they? What must Edos be doing in preparation for those opportunities? Questions.

Edos worldwide especially those in Edo state must ask these questions and get answers for them. Another picture of a so-called investor, another committee parading picture is not needed.

Wait a couple of months or years and Gov. Obaseki may turn out to be right with his approach but for now, ask questions.
