NIDO Europe Taking Over NIDO Worldwide, Kenneth Gbandi

April 2, 2019

As I take over the Co-ordination of NIDO Worldwide: A passionate call to Esteemed Global Diaspora leaders:
Dear compatriots,
It’s my pleasure to welcome us to the 4th month of this beautiful year.

I would like to use this opportunity to announce that NIDO Europe, under my leadership, took over the coordination of NIDO Worldwide (NIDOWW) on 1 April 2019 for a 3-month rotational period. Thanks to my colleagues @ NIDO Africa, NIDO Americas, NIDO Asia and NIDO Oceania. The tasks before me will be to continue the coordination of specific activities of the Global Nigerian Diaspora under the umbrella of NIDOWW.

Such activities include but are not limited to

- the enrolment of all Nigerians in the Diaspora in the National Identity Database (NIDB),
- the Diaspora’s full participation in the nascent Nigerian Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM),
- the realization of the Diaspora Voting Rights by 2023,
- the continued advocacy for good governance in Nigeria,
- the facilitation of Diaspora investment in our homeland and
- preparations for the Diaspora Day 2019 in Abuja.

These matters are of great importance to all Nigerians living outside Nigeria. Therefore strategic co-operation, networking and synergy among all Nigerian Diaspora groups are cardinal.

For over 16 years we have fought one another for Diaspora supremacy and recognition, playing directly into the hands of those who wish to see us divided than united. For over 16 years we have focused energy on destroying ourselves than addressing the issues of a united Global Diaspora for good governance and development in our home country and our people.

Now is the time to turn a new leaf. We must henceforth reject manipulative tendencies designed to keep us divided. We must unite around the issues of collective importance to us. Together we are strong!

No single individual, entity or organization can effectively address the myriad of challenges facing Nigeria. Nevertheless, NIDO despite its challenges has emerged as the strategic Diaspora partner of the Federal Government of Nigeria as enshrined in NIDCOM.

Nigeria is a community of different ethnic, cultural and religious groups so is the Global Diaspora. We must turn this diversity into strength and the Nigerian Global Diaspora community must lead the cause of renewing the unity of our nation. NIDO is willing, ready and capable to take the leadership. It is time to rekindle the Diaspora indomitable spirit!

The Nigerian Global community needs to build a sense of urgency for consolidation. Every little progress made in the last 20 years must be guarded jealously.

I am not naive to think this clarion call will be heeded by all; there is much work to be done during and after my term as Coordinator of NIDOWW to overcome the issues that set us apart. This work we must do together. It is my utmost hope and conviction that “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come” (Victor Hugo).

It's time to unite around a common agenda, work effectively with the private sector, governments and civil society organizations at all levels. It is the choice of others if they want to tell us that this is impossible, but it must be a conscious decision for the good majority of us to retain the faith that the work to be done is not more complicated than what most of us have been doing in our respective professions across the Global Diaspora.

There is no better time than now for the needed synergy for a United Nigerian Global Diaspora co-operation and sustainable networking to provide the much-needed framework for a United Homeland Engagement-Post Diaspora Commission.

I count on your precious moral and professional support and above all your prayers

Hon. Kenneth Gbandi
Chairman Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Europe/
Co-ordinator Nigerians in Diaspora Organization Worldwide (NIDOWW
