It is a worrying and crying time for the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and his loyalists as the planned mega rally scheduled to hold at Garrick Memorial School, Ekenwan Road, Benin City, has belly-flopped, turning to a disappointment and national disgrace for the APC faction.
The event, which many residents describe as ‘humanly and spiritually disfavoured’ got several hits from APC youths, Police and the state government forcing it to crumble, draining millions of naira invested in the anti-party programme by members of the Edo Peoples Movement (EPM).
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, specifically had cancelled the rally organised to welcome a former chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pastor Osagie Ize- Iyamu and his loyalists to the APC.
A visit by our correspondent to the proposed venue for the purported rally showed outright abandonment, with chairs and canopy covers littered like a riot-zone.
Following instructions from the IGP and resistance from Edo youths, artistes and musicians who were supposed to play at the venue have been dispersed from the venue, leaving it a fallow of emptiness.
It is alleged that a few recalcitrant members held a small gathering at the residence of Ize-Iyamu to wipe off the face of shame that the failed event brought to their fold.
